Muahaha… yes, I couldn’t resist. How could I not join in on this challenge!?
I had a vision in my head of puppy running leggings, but couldn’t find any fabric that fit what I was imagining. Plus, there aren’t many dog prints out there that look quite as adorable as my little mutt babies… sooo… in came Spoonflower…
I used the same photo that I used for our Christmas Card this past year. I tried adding a few designs but ultimately decided to go with plain white. Gotta work on my pattern repeats if I want to try this fabric design thing again.
I used the Sloan Leggings pattern from Hey June (view B, tall, 3/4 length). I was drawn to this pattern because of the design – and the long inseam option, of course! I used my awesome Spoonflower Modern Jersey fabric and this black Tricot Satin Matte Nylon Spandex Knit from Girl Charlee. My puppy fabric turned out to be a little more see-through than I was imagining, but it still worked well enough.
So many things went wrong while making these… I cut a straight medium, but when I put them on the waist was way too big! I’m not sure if it was my cutting or my sizing or my sewing… I also didn’t have any clear elastic, as it recommended, so figured I would just go without. Maybe if the waist turned out smaller it would’ve worked, but it definitely didn’t… so at the end I took my seam ripper to the inner seam of the waistband and slipped in a piece of elastic. It doesn’t look great, but it works well enough. I also mixed up the front and back waistband pieces, so my pocket ended up in the back instead of the front… and one of the legs is about an inch longer than the other. Luckily that last one is easily fixable :)
Despite all of their flaws… who wouldn’t want to go for a walk with their puppies wearing their puppies on their pants…?! Hmm… maybe normal people?
Crazy? Maybe a little…
But who could resist those faces?!
I also planned to make the little ones shirts from a couple of Danny’s old shirts but I only got as far as testing one for Finn…
I used this Basic Raglan Tee pattern from Milla Milla (size 4XL for my big boy).
Such cutie patooties!
Now… what to do with the rest of my puppy fabric…
:)
Until next time,
Fabulous!

How awesome! Great job on those. What a fabulous idea to have Spoonflower make your doggie fabric. I love it. And your dogs look quite pleased with themselves too. You know, the deadline for the challenge has been extended to March 21 so you can squeeze in a couple outfits for the poopsters. :) But you’re probably on to something else!
