Straight Stitch Designs View Ridge Top

I recently got a chance to test the latest pattern from Straight Stitch Designs and as per usual… surprise, surprise… it’s a wonderful pattern! :) There’s just something about Kimberly’s designs that I’m really drawn to… it’s all in the details, and the View Ridge is no exception! For my tester version, I used this plain black cotton voile from Fabric Wholesale Direct, purchased back in September at the same time as all of my fabrics for Super Girl ;) It was pretty thin, so for the main body of the tank, I cut two of everything and doubled it up – which worked wonders. I did that for everything except the ruffle, where I figured I didn’t need the extra layer of bulk.     The whole thing came together fairly quickly. And of course, no black shirt (or any shirt for that matter… or any meal) would be complete around here without a little white dog hair, thanks to that little one there on the right. See… even Finn can’t take a picture without having a chunk of …

A few things finished in February…

At the beginning of the month, I dug out a bunch of unfinished objects at different stages in hopes that I could finish a few in honor of the February challenge at The Monthly Stitch! And yay… I actually finished a few! First up… The Greenwood Tank was/is my first indie paper pattern! I love pdfs but it was so fun to work with a pre-printed pattern for a change! I got it in one of her Stitch Kits back in September of last year, then did a test run and cut my fabric in October. Then my cut fabric pieces sat there waiting patiently for me… until now! :)    I cut a straight 4. The fit is great, but not perfect. Next time I’ll try grading out a size or two at the hips, and add an inch or two of length depending on my fabric. Overall, though, I love it! It’s a great go-to staple pattern! Plus… how often can you say that you perfectly match your pattern envelope?! :) I just love this art gallery …

Happy Birthday, Sis! (a.k.a. Montlake Tee & Sweater Repair)

My sister’s birthday was a few days ago, so I wanted to share a quick couple of things I finished up for her… First up, my latest take on the Montlake Tee! I used the same fabrics from my last tester version, but added some color blocking because A) I thought it would look cool… and B) I didn’t have enough fabric for sleeves in the main color :/ But I couldn’t resist using up the rest of this fabric because I just love it so much! :D I wanted to print a copy of the final version of the pattern anyway, so before I threw my old one out, I figured I would play around with some color blocking! I chopped a little off of the top of each pattern piece, then taped them together and created a new piece, and added seam allowances to all respective edges…    Then I did this: Ooops… :/ Tried that one again… :) I used this pocket pattern, but cut on the inner edges to make it a little …

Straight Stitch Designs Montlake Pattern Testing

So far I’m starting this year out very similar to last year :) And by that I mean pattern testing for Kimberly at Straight Stitch Designs! Yay! Her latest pattern is the Montlake Tee… found HERE! It just released today! It’s a simple, scoop-neck tee that is slightly fitted at the bust and a little more relaxed at the hips. So it’s basically perfect for any knit with at least a little bit of stretch and a little bit of drape. Disclaimer: These are tester versions. So although I love each one as-is, there were a lot of pattern changes along the way so the fit of the final pattern is going to be a little bit different (aka better!) Muahaha! That and I received this pattern in exchange for testing, but that in no way influenced my opinions below. Version 1.   Details: Pattern version 1. Size 4. Long sleeve. No alterations. I sized down for the next one, but this one is still super comfy :) And the shoulder seam and armscye got a huge overhaul …

Life Updates, a Greenwood Tank, & a Little(!) Halloween Progress

Hi!! So I have a few super fun life updates!!.. Okay, so they aren’t updates from my life… but they are happening around me so I think it counts! First, my big sis is going to be my new neighbor! They just bought the house next door to us! Well, I should say, their offer was accepted for the house but still I’m super excited for them! And for me that they will be so close! It’ll be just like when we were growing up and I know that she just couldn’t get enough of having me around. ;P Also have I mentioned that my BFF (the one I made the Sutton Blouse for) recently got engaged!?! Super excited to start helping with wedding plans :) See… some people dread that part. But planning is my jam. I tend to spend as much more :/ time planning out my sewing than actually sewing but it’s a toss up which part of the process I actually get more enjoyment out of. Which is why I’m also excited about my new …
