A DIY Star Wars Halloween

Since it’s about to be Halloween again, I figured now is as good a time as any to share our Halloween costumes from last year! ;)     Are they cute, or what?! Right now we’re just thankful for this time while they’re young and still happy to coordinate their costumes. I know it’ll be fun for them to have these memories when they get older – or at least fun for us to have these memories ;) This year, we’re continuing the cousin-coordinating tradition with a Super Mario theme (gaa…)! So when we decided on Star Wars, I was actually pretty excited because I knew I could pull most of the fabric we’d need from my stash. All I ended up ordering was the brown flannel for Obi Wan Kenobi’s robe – which ended up costing me a whopping $1.15 because I found a random gift card from who knows when for Joann’s. I consider that a stashbusting win. :) Obi-Wan For the robe, I used the (free!) Hooded Robe Pattern from Sew Much …

Maternity Panama Tee Dress + A Little Birth Story

We weren’t originally planning to have maternity photos taken, but I’m so glad we did! It’s just one of those memories that’ll be nice to have documented later. In the beginning of my pregnancy, I started taking weekly bump pictures, but that fizzled out pretty quickly once I forgot to take them for a week or two (in my mind, if I didn’t have every week, it wasn’t worth finishing… which probably wasn’t true, but whatevs… that’s how my brain worked at the time…). So, a huge thank you to the lovely Amy of Amy Lynn Studios for taking these! We love how they turned out!   For the dress, it was a week before we were supposed to get our photos done and I realized I didn’t have anything to wear. I mean, I probably had SOMETHING I could’ve worn, but it was slim pickings at that point of the pregnancy (these were taken at 37 weeks). I scoured my closet and tried on the dresses that I had left hanging in there (I’d …

Pattern Testing: Blue Dot Patterns Coffeehouse Pant!

I first learned about Blue Dot Patterns back in 2015 when Melissa from Mahlica Designs invited me to participate in the Creative Sewing Challenge. Since that time, Diane has also come out with the Ally Skirt (which I love, but it came out right around the time I was working on my button up pencil skirt), and the Coffeehouse Pant (yes, that’s yours truly on the pattern page… ) :P I was lucky enough to test the pants back in September but had to hold out sharing them until they were released. They were released through UpCraft Club in January, and here I am, finally sharing mine now! :) I’d been hoarding this fabric since March of 2016. It’s a really soft suiting I got from Cali Fabrics when I was ordering fabrics for a few things I was making for my bff’s wedding that year (I’m a sucker for free shipping…). I got it at the same time as the lace trim for her getting ready robe, the white ponte I used on her bridal shower dress, …

Last Year’s Makes

There’s been a lot going on over the last few months, but I’m excited to finally do a little catch-up and share a few makes from the end of the year on here. Most of my DIY time last year was spent on wedding makes, but I did actually make a few unrelated things in the second half of the year. I shared them here and there on IG, but here’s a round up! First up: Ella Top by Liola Patterns, Julia Cardigan from Mouse House Creations, and Pixie Wallet from Home Row Fiber Co. — I shared these three over on The Monthly Stitch for Indie Pattern Month if you’d like to read more about them. The cardigan has become one of my favorite makes to date. It’s a super lightweight fabric but it was perfect for this double-layer design. I have to admit, I threw it in the wash after the first time wearing it and somehow immediately misplaced it for about 6 months (ha!… it’s not just socks that the laundry elves steal!). But I found it again a month or …

A Travel-Inspired Gift Basket

Black Dog Animal Rescue. I haven’t mentioned them in a while, but this little (but always growing) organization will forever hold a special place in my heart. I volunteered for them, fostered for them, and got my sweet baby boy from them when we lived in Wyoming. Now I’m just a member of their Constant Companion Club and make a gift basket once a year for their silent auction. Something is better than nothing, right? ;) Also it’s been a lot of fun coming up with basket ideas. Last year, it was right before the new Gilmore Girls came out on Netflix, so I went for a Gilmore Girls theme. This year I guess I’ve been dreaming of getting away, so I went for a travel theme. :) What’s included: Southwest Airlines Gift Card (thank you, credit card points…) ;) Lonely Planet Ultimate Travel Book (it’s a really fun book with lots of inspirational travel photos… I might have to get one for my own coffee table) Cozy socks (always necessary for the plane ride… these …
