A Frozen Halloween!

Happy Daylight Saving today! (LOL… “they call it Arizona” “it’s NOT plural!”… that video cracks me up – if you haven’t seen it take a minute and click the link; it’ll be worth your time). Okay, so it wasn’t frozen at all… it was actually pretty hot yesterday (poor little Olaf was melting!)… but here’s how the costumes turned out! :) Olaf Patterns: Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop Snowman Costume (Free Pattern! but also just learned they sell fabric… have you seen their knit panels… so cute!), Go To Baby Leggings (Free Pattern!), Dylan Onesie Patten (also made here; I added an extra panel of interfacing-reinforced fabric on the inside under the snaps this time and it was a lot easier; snaps are definitely the way to go – last time I made the one with velcro and I think it was scratching his legs too much), Fleece Hat Pattern from Tracy’s Treasury (Free Pattern! — I lengthened the ear flaps and added velcro for the chin strap). SUPERGIRL! Yessss! So in the midst of planning and sewing my Frozen Costumes, my work decided to do a superhero/villain theme… and who doesn’t love a superhero costume for Halloween!? I wanted something with a cape… and something that would still be work appropriate :)    I used McCall’s M6754, view D. I cut the XS this time since last time I cut the S and had to take it in. Plus my fabric this time was super stretchy. It fits perfectly! I lengthened the sleeves a few inches and added a banded neckline (with the same technique as that used on the Greenwood Tank). I could/should have done sleeve bands too, but I’m too lazy for that now. I left the bottom hem unfinished as well – I didn’t want to lose any length from the skirt. For the cape, I used a similar technique as the binding, one end was just very long and I didn’t top stitch :) It actually worked really nicely because there are no exposed edges. 3-Day Countdown to a Frozen Halloween!

Eeek… where has October gone?! So my big costume plans have dwindled into minimal get-it-done plans… but they are coming along nonetheless… just one more full costume to go and a few finishing touches on the rest. Sometimes I work best under pressure. Or at least that’s what I tell myself to feel better about my procrastination! :) That and I keep having to remind myself this is not cosplay… it’s just Halloween :) Here are a few progress shots… Here’s my finished Anna skirt. Original plan included embroidery like the top… but there’s no time for that now. Plus I figure it’ll make it that much easier to convert this into an everyday skirt after Halloween that I may actually wear :) Olaf’s hat! Almost complete… I forgot the twigs coming out of the top – may need to add those. Elsa! Life Updates, a Greenwood Tank, & a Little(!) Halloween Progress

Hi!! So I have a few super fun life updates!!.. Okay, so they aren’t updates from my life… but they are happening around me so I think it counts! First, my big sis is going to be my new neighbor! They just bought the house next door to us! Well, I should say, their offer was accepted for the house but still I’m super excited for them! And for me that they will be so close! It’ll be just like when we were growing up and I know that she just couldn’t get enough of having me around. ;P Also have I mentioned that my BFF (the one I made the Sutton Blouse for) recently got engaged!?! Super excited to start helping with wedding plans :) See… some people dread that part. But planning is my jam. I tend to spend as much more :/ time planning out my sewing than actually sewing but it’s a toss up which part of the process I actually get more enjoyment out of. Countdown to a Frozen Halloween: 6-Week Sewing Progress!

So I didn’t make as much progress this week…. but it was a little more detailed so I guess that’s fair :) You may have guessed it from my fabric and last week’s progress, but this week is a complete giveaway! I’m sewing Frozen costumes! Wahooo! Or… at least attempting to.  :) I drafted a pattern for Anna’s bodice/top by drawing out the shape I wanted over a tank that I knew fit to get the sizing right (or at least close), and adding a sweetheart neckline and v at the bottom. This also marks my first time making a muslin! I used an old sheet that I still had from our Dwarf Mine decorations from Halloween two years ago. After a few drafts of the pattern and two muslins (can you make muslin plural? hmm… not sure, but I just did), I got my final pattern pieces and cut my top. I cut the front as two pieces so there is a seam down the middle front and the back as one piece cut on the fold. …
