Catching Up… July Makes!

Alright, I realize it’s almost the end of August, but for the sake of record keeping :) here’s a quick rundown of my makes from July! There were two. They were both easy, and super comfy – as any summer makes should be, right!? First up, the Santa Fe Top from Hey June! The pattern itself is great, as with all of hers (hence the hashtag!). I made view E in my usual size S, no alterations.   My star and stripe fabrics were from Girl Charlee, and the grey jersey is from Felinus Fabrics (purchased July 2015… yay for a little stashbusting! …well, if that’s what you call it when you buy a yard each of stars and stripes and barely use any, then use less than a yard of the jersey from your stash). :)   I didn’t have a good grey color thread at the time so I went for red and blue. Sometimes you want things to look RTW… sometimes you just have to go for things that you would never find in RTW. Like …

Mesh Cutout Foxglove Tank

Hello hello! So things have been a little busy around here lately and I definitely haven’t been sewing as much as I’d like. I’m coming up on the end of my 3-month fabric fast (not buying any new fabric and only using what I already have in my stash) and I haven’t even used very much because I’ve only made a few things. :/ But what are ya gonna do, right!? :) We’ve been somewhat on the house hunt since we moved, but haven’t found anything interesting come up on the market in the last few months to even go look at. Then last weekend we had a meeting set up to go look at a house that looked good from the pictures (but, as we’ve learned, you can never really tell until you get there!)… a couple days after that we found ourselves in a bidding war… now all the papers are signed and we are in escrow! Crazy! We’re super excited, though… and of course I’m already planning where my new sewing space is …

Happy Birthday, Sis! (a.k.a. Montlake Tee & Sweater Repair)

My sister’s birthday was a few days ago, so I wanted to share a quick couple of things I finished up for her… First up, my latest take on the Montlake Tee! I used the same fabrics from my last tester version, but added some color blocking because A) I thought it would look cool… and B) I didn’t have enough fabric for sleeves in the main color :/ But I couldn’t resist using up the rest of this fabric because I just love it so much! :D I wanted to print a copy of the final version of the pattern anyway, so before I threw my old one out, I figured I would play around with some color blocking! I chopped a little off of the top of each pattern piece, then taped them together and created a new piece, and added seam allowances to all respective edges…    Then I did this: Ooops… :/ Tried that one again… :) I used this pocket pattern, but cut on the inner edges to make it a little …

Countdown to a Frozen Halloween: 6-Week Sewing Progress!

So I didn’t make as much progress this week…. but it was a little more detailed so I guess that’s fair :) You may have guessed it from my fabric and last week’s progress, but this week is a complete giveaway! I’m sewing Frozen costumes! Wahooo! Or… at least attempting to.  :) I drafted a pattern for Anna’s bodice/top by drawing out the shape I wanted over a tank that I knew fit to get the sizing right (or at least close), and adding a sweetheart neckline and v at the bottom. This also marks my first time making a muslin! I used an old sheet that I still had from our Dwarf Mine decorations from Halloween two years ago. After a few drafts of the pattern and two muslins (can you make muslin plural? hmm… not sure, but I just did), I got my final pattern pieces and cut my top. I cut the front as two pieces so there is a seam down the middle front and the back as one piece cut on the fold. …

C is for C. Wonder Seamed Stripes Swing Tee

Hello hello! Welcome to the third installment of my self-imposed A to Z Brand Inspiration Challenge! I’m actually super excited about this make! It’s probably the most well-fitting thing I’ve made yet. Yes, it’s only a t-shirt, but it’s really comfortable and it has a great shape and length. I credit the pattern (see below!). Here was my inspiration: C. Wonder – Seamed Stripes Boxy Tee Theirs: $78 (now out of stock)   Mine: $14 (and I have plenty of fabric leftover for another project) I got 2 yards of this Two Sided Cotton Jersey from Girl Charlee at the same time I got my KnitFix last month. I’d been looking for a good stripe knit for this project for a while and this one worked out perfectly. I love the heavier weight and it has the perfect amount of stretch. I was trying not to worry too much about matching the stripes at the seams, but it actually worked out and I love so much that it did! Don’t mind the hair… I shed… the puppies shed… …
