Buying Sewing Notions Online — Good Idea? Or a Recipe for Disaster?

I’ve learned that I really like to have notions on hand. I don’t live near a fabric or sewing store of any kind (okay… I admit – there’s a quilting shop in town that I haven’t been to yet… but my hopes aren’t very high that they’ll have the things I’m looking for… but I still need to check them out one of these days). So anyway, I’ve taken to online shopping for my notions. The problem with online is they don’t always tell or show you exactly what the things you are purchasing look like. Therefore, you have to be just a little bit smart and, well, you know… read descriptions. And from those descriptions you hopefully have a good idea of what you’re ordering. Crazy idea, right!? Which brings us to today’s story. I recently learned my lesson the hard way. What was the lesson, you ask? Well let’s see. Here’s a nice little picture of some cotton piping cord: Okay, great… that’s what I need. I needed less than a yard but I figured… …

Christmas Card Reveal!

Oooo fun day. I’m so excited about our cards this year! Here’s the close up: Ahhh… I just can’t get enough of those sweet faces. Seeing that last year didn’t go very well trying to get their photos, this year I kept them inside, separated them, and gave out lots of treats during the process :) Here are a few outtakes: As long as there’s good lighting, Finn is actually pretty easy to get a good picture of – and of course as long as he will slow down for a minute :/ Zoe always puts on her serious face when I have the camera out, but luckily she broke down and gave me a nice smile :) Then she got bored and walked away… so we were done. lol Oh and right now as I write this I can hear Finn snoring from the living room. You’d think he was an old man. I love my little furry old man. :) Another awesome tool I’ve found is lone squeakers. I ordered these ones to make …

Favorite Holiday Memory

Note: This photo has absolutely nothing to do with this post; I just like it :) It was taken while on a walk in Cheyenne in 2012. So, my favorite holiday memory! I tried to track down photos to entertain you embarrass myself with, but apparently we only have videos… on VHS, of course. Aww… too bad ;) I have no idea how this tradition started, but every year growing up we would have Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner at my Grandma’s house with all of the aunts, uncles, and cousins. On Thanksgiving, following dinner, while the adults cleaned up ;) we would sit down with paper and a pen and write a script for a Christmas play. There were 5 of us cousins; I say ‘we’ wrote the play, but technically  my sister and one of my cousins did most of the writing. I just remember playing under the stairs while throwing out an idea here and there. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we would finish the script, practice our lines, and prepare for the big …

A Letter to Santa

Okay, okay here I go… joining in for the 25 Days of Christmas, in all of its blogging glory! This is the most amazing time of year, after all. Why not join in on the fun? :) See all of the prompts here or here. Dear Santa, It’s been a while since I’ve written you a letter. Sorry I haven’t been in touch. But I know you’ve had your hands full. Speaking of… Santa, you’ve seen a good number of years go by… do you find that the time seems to go by faster every year? I can’t believe how quickly this year came and went. I say it every year, but it never ceases to impress me. Sorry, Santa, did I just call you old? My dad would say you must be drinking green smoothies. Do you drink green smoothies, Santa? Looking back, it was always so exciting waiting for you to come. It was the only day of the year my sister would wake up before me. And it was all because of you, Santa. …

Sometimes I shouldn’t be allowed to help with things…

So Danny has been going around the house fixing all of our blinds. They were reminiscent of this (or this or this). lol The’re the basic white blinds you can get at any home store for cheap… so yes, nothing crazy to replace, but he decided to go ahead and fix them since the renters hadn’t shortened any of them to fit the windows so they had plenty of extra rails (I feel like I’m not explaining this very well… this is what I’m talking about) lol so anyway… the other day, he fixed one of the ones in the bedroom and then the pups ran in there and messed up what he’d just fixed and he got frustrated. That’s how they all got messed up in the first place — pups love to look out windows :/ So after he fixed the nice big window downstairs, I was like “you should really pull up the shade so they can’t mess it up after you put in all that time to fix it.” Here I …
