JEANS and the Chicken List!

Say hello to my wonderful new me-made jeans! Waaahoooooo! And just in time for Me-Made May! I know this pattern is far from new to the sewing scene, but I finally took it off my chicken list and I’m so excited to report they are FINISHED! I went all out when the Ginger Jeans pattern first came out… I even ordered one of the beautiful denim kits thinking I would jump on the bandwagon right away, follow the sewalong, and be a jeans pro by the end of 2014. I then found this less expensive denim to practice with from Mood. And now, months later, here we are… I’m not sure how well the fabric will hold up over time, but for now it’s great! I love the color and it has the perfect amount of stretch. Right before sewing the waistband on, I tried them on and the waist was way too big. I wasn’t sure where to go from there – I didn’t feel comfortable adjusting the size at that point – so I just finished the waistband and …

Sunday Sew Love: Triple Take!

I seem to have an incessant need to complete things even when there’s no particular reason or need to do so. I’m one of those people who will finish a book even when I don’t like it half-way through or will complete a TV series even when it’s getting brutal to watch or I already know what happens. I sometimes wish I didn’t feel this way (visions of The Secret Life of the American Teenager are coming to mind…) :/ So long story short… (or short story long) :/ I realize there is no need for me to catch up on my Sunday Sew Love posts but here ya go anyway… Sunday, 12 April (left) Diary of a Chainstitcher Printed Silk Maxi Skirt | (top/center) Sewing is Therapy Dream Team (top/right and bottom) Looks Like I Made It Dog Coat and Wiggle Skirt & High Waisted Panel Pants Note: I save posts as I see them and I totally didn’t realize I had two from the same blog until just now as I type this… love …

Me-Made-May’15 Pledge & Sewing Plans

I, Kyla of lifebyky.com, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’15. I endeavor to wear each of my me-made items at least once throughout the month of May 2015. Yay! This will be my first time participating. I don’t have enough me-made items to wear something every day, so I’m challenging myself to wear each of the ones I have made at least once throughout the month. That and getting rid of the ones I don’t want to wear ever… because I’m pretty sure there are at least a few of those in the mix :/ Although I know Me-Made-May isn’t meant to be about making things, here are a few things coming down the pipeline – a couple of which may or may not happen in May :) No stress sewing here – if I knew the meaning of stress sewing I’m pretty sure my jeans that I started in what – October? – would be a little farther along :) Pattern | Fabric Pattern | Fabric | Inspiration Pattern | Fabric 1 + 2 | …

Casual Friday: Union St. Tee

Do you have casual Fridays? I don’t, but here’s a little piece of casual sewing on Friday anyway! :) As you can probably tell, these photos were taken on the same day as my bird top. Gotta take advantage of the time and the weather when I have it :) (don’t mind the pups… poor Finny doesn’t get to win very often) Fabric: This was another knit from my knit fix way back when :) It’s a really soft, lightweight knit. It was fun to work with, although super slippery and kind of a pain to keep a hold of when I was sewing the neckline. Pattern: Hey June Union St. Tee. I’m pretty sure the sentiment about this pattern is consistent across the blogsphere – it’s a wonderful pattern! It’s a simple top, but the directions are great. It was my first time with a v-neck, and it turned out a lot easier than I was imagining. The fabric didn’t have a lot of stretch, so I sized up to the medium and I think it …

Put A Bird On It: Vintage McCall’s Edition

I have to admit, when the voting came around for this month’s TMS challenge, I believe I voted for “Put a fox on it”. Yes, there are some adorable fox prints out there… but I’m pretty the majority had it right on this one in selecting birds! :) Plus, I already had bird fabric in my stash from months ago! I got it back when we were living in Wyoming, shortly before we left. I had to travel to Utah to take my California pharmacy licensure exam (somehow this was the closest testing site) :/, so after the test I dragged Danny to A Fashionable Stitch back when she had her brick & mortar store open. It was an adorable place and I couldn’t pass up this beautiful cotton voile. I told myself it was my celebratory gift for passing my exam (even though I didn’t hear the results for months… I told myself I could use it as soon as I found out I passed… so considering I passed and have been working for …
