2nd Trimester Gift Box

Sissy update! Here’s my little niece or nephew! Can’t see much yet… but I’m sure he/she is adorable. So here’s my sissy’s 2nd trimester gift box (should have made it in the mail to her by now): Contents: Sewn-with-love maternity shirt Belly Butter  Bellaband (thought about trying to make one myself… then didn’t bother… maybe if she likes it I’ll give it a try…) (See her 1st trimester box here) Oh, and here’s Zoe. She wanted to say hi. :)

A to Z Brand Inspiration Challenge & A is for Anthropologie Splitback Tee

So here’s my problem. Back when I started knitting and crocheting, I would go into stores and refuse to buy myself any knit or crochet items. “I could make that!” I would always tell myself… why would I buy it for $$$such and such. To be fair, the majority of the time I wouldn’t actually get around to making things for myself… so I’d refuse to buy things, but I wouldn’t end up making them either. It’s just the principle. So now my problem has grown. Now that I’m sewing, I go into stores and say “I could make that!” about everything! I’m afraid I’m never going to be able to buy clothes again. :/ Obviously I can’t make everything I see… I’m just not that talented yet… but still… With that thought in mind and while searching the blogsphere for sewing inspiration, I found a good number of A to Z challenges (I especially like the Sew All 26 challenge at No Big Dill)… but seeing that that challenge just ended, and I’m not …

Mother’s Day / May Weather / Cooking and Crafting Fails

Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom a girl could ask for! In honor of Mother’s Day (even though she’s half the country away), I used this recipe to make cinnamon rolls this morning (well, last night/this morning… they were overnighters)! It was my first attempt at homemade cinnamon rolls. It failed. I’m thinking it was a combination of not making any high altitude adjustments and not letting it rise long enough in the morning, but they were pretty dense. Flavor was ok… but they were definitely not the big fluffy cinnamon rolls I was going for. :( Next time less impatience. More deliciousness. Also in honor of Mother’s Day, I attempted the ‘cut a wine bottle with nail polish remover and string’ thing. Wanted to make her a nice DIY candle. That failed too. :/ I tried three different kinds of string/yarn, 4 different bottles… but only got one to work. And it wasn’t very nice. I tried to sand it down, and went ahead and made a candle out of it anyway (thought maybe I …

Sew Stretchy: The Monthly Stitch

My May entry for The Monthly Stitch! Sew Stretchy! To be honest I feel more frightened of sewing wovens than knits… but one of these days I should probably learn the proper way to sew stretchy fabrics. For now I’m just faking it as I go… I found this awesome floral jersey at Joann’s and immediately remembered this contrast back sheath dress tutorial.  I traced the shape from a shirt and pencil skirt like the tutorial suggests. I cut the front and back and sewed the side seams… then tried it on. I decided the fabric was too thin for me to feel comfortable in. So instead I folded the top inside the skirt to give it a lining, added some elastic at the top and a ruffle layer at the bottom to give it some extra length and turned it into a flared pencil skirt. The purple jersey was leftover from the last skirt I made. With it being lined, it’s super comfortable and I’ll definitely wear it… but for my next project I’m hoping to go …

I have the best coworkers… just sayin’

“These are for the Captain” was all I heard behind me. I turned around to see these being handed through the pharmacy window: My techs know that I’ve been worn down lately. After taking over as Flight Commander almost two months ago, it’s been one thing after another and I’ve been averaging 11-13 hour work days plus weekends. We’re getting everything together, and it shouldn’t stay like this forever, but for now it’s busy. Very busy. But this was such an unexpected surprise… I almost started crying right then and there. I’ve been truly blessed (can I say blessed if I’m not religious?) to be working with such a great group of people. We may have our ups and downs in the workplace, but at the end of the day everyone really cares about one another. And with that I really couldn’t ask for more! So I set the flowers by my checking station and got to smell them the rest of the day. Count a narc… smell the flowers… check a dose… smell the …
