Salme Vegas Blazer

I downloaded the Salme Cropped Blazer pattern back in June when I made my Minna blouse but didn’t get around to making it till now. The Monthly Stitch outerwear challenge this month was the perfect motivation :) And it was good timing… it was something fun to wear in Vegas! We went for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon this past weekend and had sooo much fun (even though we were sore and hobbling around half the time we were there)!   I found this stretch herringbone suiting fabric when it was on sale at Mood. It reminded me of this one, although there was no way I was going to attempt a lining like she did. :) I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who had trouble with the mitered corners. I absolutely did mine incorrectly… lol I also did the shoulders incorrectly, but I was having one of those moments. I realized I was just not going to understand the directions no matter how many times I read them over so I just did …

Also I’m super excited to share my next make… my first attempt at outerwear! Coming once I get some pictures taken of it… in Vegas, baby! :) Alisa, I’m in your neck of the woods! If we were here longer I’d ask to meet you for lunch! :) I’m running participating in the Rock ‘n’ Roll half this weekend. Although I had big plans for training, those kinda absolutely fell to the wayside as I was finishing up at work and moving and all. So this one is definitely a just-for-fun run! Until next time,

Flight Suit Purse A Go-Go

Why a go-go? It just felt right. :) So I guess it turned out more of a tote than a purse… but anywhoo… here’s the finished product. As mentioned, I made this one for a friend from one of her boyfriend’s old flight suits. She gave me a couple of flight suits to play around with, and picked out the blue zebra duck cloth from Hobby Lobby for the lining. Now I just have to get it into the mail. I hope she likes it!    My favorite part is the front pockets… all still functional, I just cut out the old fabric and added another layer of the lining so it shows in the pockets too. :) The inside pockets were all stolen from the pant legs. I sewed the two big pockets together then onto the lining only along the outside and one line up the middle so they are more like double pockets. I really liked the examples I saw with the strap coming around from the back to the front, so I …

Our boxes are almost all unpacked (just a few left!!! ok, maybe 7 or so, but still… getting much closer) :) And I finished setting up my sewing machine today so I know what I’ll be doing over the next few days (yay!). Also need to check in at my new work tomorrow… make sure I’m all good to go there and get some other odds and ends done now that we’re sort of almost settled (like getting new car registration and a new license and such…) :/ Oh, and here’s a picture of my new little nephew… just because he is crazy adorable. :) We did a little photo shoot the other day. He made it just in time to be a Halloween baby… I imagine he will probably either love or hate his birthday being on Halloween. I’m not sure how I’d feel about it. Until …

Halloween 2014

Halloween 2014… a.k.a. the year I bought an entire bold of fabric and didn’t sew anything :) And the year of lazy costumes. Basically, the complete opposite of last year. Halloween was weird this year. It was my last official day in the military, we were getting ready to move across the country, AND I didn’t do really anything for my costumes. Call me a costume snob, but I blame my mom (love you, Mom!) ;) I was spoiled and never had a store-bought costume growing up, and I’ve always tried to avoid them as much as possible. This year I had two costumes, both thrown together with regular clothes… they weren’t my favorites but they worked out alright. So first up, just in case you’ve ever wondered what an entire bold of army green broadcloth looks like… here ya go: Here’s the whole M*A*S*H crew: And here was the same group (mostly) the weekend before: :) Oh my goodness, I’m going to miss all of them so much! Who wouldn’t!? Check that group out! …
