Handmade Gift Exchange, Part 2

Can I just begin by saying how adorable this packaging is… haha “Dill with it!” :)   Julie, my handmade gift exchange partner, sent me some awesome stuff! Here’s what the note said: “Enclosed are a flower that will never die and a jar of stars. When you need a pick-me-up, shake the jar and pick a star. Pinch it flat and find the arrow. Pull out the flap and unravel the star for a special message. Enjoy!”   This flower will be making its home on my desk. And of course I was too curious – I had to open at least one of the stars – and luckily figured out how to fold it back up after :) This is such an adorable and thoughtful gift. Thank you, Julie!

My First Tornado

Experienced my first real tornado today! Well, I don’t know if you can say “experienced”… here was the extent of it: Went to the post office at lunch and as I was driving back onto base, I noticed the clouds looked funny. I thought it looked like a tornado forming, but didn’t think anything of it. I’ve lived here for 3 years now and haven’t seen even one. But, by the time I parked, the tornado warning alarms were going off and everyone was running outside to take pictures (maybe not the smartest move…) before going downstairs into the tornado shelter. Anywhoo, I’m of course glad it didn’t come any closer. Really don’t want to experience one for real. No thank you there. Plus, last night we had a crazy hail storm that put poor little Finny boy into a nervous shaking fit :( Have I mentioned yet that I am ready for nicer weather. No? Ok, I’m ready for nicer weather. :)

Oh, The Things You Can Subscribe To These Days

If you know me at all… you know that I love getting mail! And sending mail for that matter. We’ll just say I love supporting the postal service. :) So when I randomly stumbled across this blog and read her Stitch Fix review, I was immediately intrigued. Apparently it’s very popular… not sure how I haven’t come across it before. But… I’m giving it a try :) Now that I’m officially getting out of the military (more on that later), I feel like I need to attempt to create a real adult wardrobe. I’ve started this with my sewing – and that’s definitely the main avenue I’d like to go down. But I’ve realized I also need to figure out what my style is. And if I can have someone pick out my clothes for me – rather than having me default to the same old styles I’ve been wearing for years – all the better! If you haven’t heard of Stitch Fix – check it out –  the skinny: they have you fill out a huge style …

Two Years

So apparently it’s been two years since I registered for WordPress. Happy Anniversary to my blog! In June it will be 10 years overall (including my time on Xanga). Crazy. Thanks to anyone who still checks in on me from time to time! Oh, and completely off-topic… today I signed up for our wing’s new program – the Mighty Ninety Safe Ride! In the past, they had a contract with one of the local cab companies that provided rides for people who maybe had a drink or so too many or maybe ended up in a bad situation; but with the unreliability of the cab company (and it was costing a lot for not getting much out of it), our new wing commander started this program. I’m interested to see how it turns out. Or how much people will use it. Hopefully they do. I started out signing up for a Saturday night and two weeknights in February as a driver… I’ll see how those go first and then sign up for more from there …
