Phew! Where has this month gone?! And this year! Ugh… it’s always the same… it flies by. It’s fun to look back though! So I’m joining in with Gillian’s Top 5 again this year to reflect a little (here was last year, in case you’re interested). Top 5 Hits 1. Halloween, definitely. Just everything about it. My family definitely did not have faith that I would finish (they love me and all but I got more than one comment every time I ran into one of them about whether or not we would actually be wearing any costumes on Halloween) No faith, I tell you! So, yes, you better believe I finished (mostly) ;)   2. My Ginger Jeans! They are far from perfect but I’m still excited about making jeans in the first place so they were a definite win. Creative Sewing Challenge with the Blue Dot Georgia Top!

A little while back, the wonderful Melissa from Mahlica Designs invited me to participate in a Creative Sewing Challenge with Blue Dot Patterns. (Side note: I’ve been loving following along with her Core Wardrobe project… definitely something I’ve thought about doing but haven’t jumped in yet) :) So needless to say, I immediately accepted the challenge! Basically it was to take one of the three Blue Dot patterns — Georgia, Margo, or Dover —  and make it your own. Challenge: accepted! ;) So then came my thought process… I initially chose the Margo blouse. I was thinking something with lace overlay for the holidays or I thought about stealing the plaid fabric I have in my fall sewing plans and going more casual. A Frozen Halloween!

Happy Daylight Saving today! (LOL… “they call it Arizona” “it’s NOT plural!”… that video cracks me up – if you haven’t seen it take a minute and click the link; it’ll be worth your time). Okay, so it wasn’t frozen at all… it was actually pretty hot yesterday (poor little Olaf was melting!)… but here’s how the costumes turned out! :) Olaf Patterns: Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop Snowman Costume (Free Pattern! but also just learned they sell fabric… have you seen their knit panels… so cute!), Go To Baby Leggings (Free Pattern!), Dylan Onesie Patten (also made here; I added an extra panel of interfacing-reinforced fabric on the inside under the snaps this time and it was a lot easier; snaps are definitely the way to go – last time I made the one with velcro and I think it was scratching his legs too much), Fleece Hat Pattern from Tracy’s Treasury (Free Pattern! — I lengthened the ear flaps and added velcro for the chin strap). SUPERGIRL! Yessss! So in the midst of planning and sewing my Frozen Costumes, my work decided to do a superhero/villain theme… and who doesn’t love a superhero costume for Halloween!? I wanted something with a cape… and something that would still be work appropriate :)    I used McCall’s M6754, view D. I cut the XS this time since last time I cut the S and had to take it in. Plus my fabric this time was super stretchy. It fits perfectly! I lengthened the sleeves a few inches and added a banded neckline (with the same technique as that used on the Greenwood Tank). I could/should have done sleeve bands too, but I’m too lazy for that now. I left the bottom hem unfinished as well – I didn’t want to lose any length from the skirt. For the cape, I used a similar technique as the binding, one end was just very long and I didn’t top stitch :) It actually worked really nicely because there are no exposed edges. 3-Day Countdown to a Frozen Halloween!

Eeek… where has October gone?! So my big costume plans have dwindled into minimal get-it-done plans… but they are coming along nonetheless… just one more full costume to go and a few finishing touches on the rest. Sometimes I work best under pressure. Or at least that’s what I tell myself to feel better about my procrastination! :) That and I keep having to remind myself this is not cosplay… it’s just Halloween :) Here are a few progress shots… Here’s my finished Anna skirt. Original plan included embroidery like the top… but there’s no time for that now. Plus I figure it’ll make it that much easier to convert this into an everyday skirt after Halloween that I may actually wear :) Olaf’s hat! Almost complete… I forgot the twigs coming out of the top – may need to add those. Elsa!
