A (Mostly) Handmade Baby Shower

My sis’s baby shower turned out really fun! We wanted to go with something unique and not store bought… so my mom and I got to work :) Thank you to Pinterest, as always, for the endless inspiration. Theme: Nautical (Ahoy! It’s a Boy!) Colors: Blue and Orange Games: Baby Shower Bingo Sperm Toss Tournament Guess Em’s Belly Size (I’m sure there is a better name for this game… but whatevs) :) My favorite part: I’m so glad I found this note on Pinterest before I sent out the invites. Actually, there are a ton of them out there with slightly different wording, but I think it’s is such a cute idea! Especially for my sis — she’s a big reader. She was able to leave the party with a whole collection of children’s books, and each with meaning because they came from all of her friends and family. For the invites, I finally broke out my Cricut! I got it for Christmas and back then I was super excited to start using it… then it …

Colors Quiet Book: Putting it All Together

There are definitely a number of tutorials out there on how to put together a quiet book, but I didn’t particularly love any of them. So here was my attempt at creating my own way. Disclaimer: I didn’t pay attention and ordered the pages completely wrong! :/ My original goal was to put them in the order of the rainbow… you know; figured that made the most sense. But then I didn’t plan it out. I blame it on being a beginner… or maybe I was just lacking that attention to detail they always talk about in the military :/ But either way, I wasn’t about to take it all apart once I realized what I did. lol… so you will notice there is absolutely no logical order to the colors in the finished book. Anywhoo… we’ll just ignore that little detail and show how I put it all together: Step 1: Cut long rectangular strips of fleece and sew your pages to them. With right sides together, sew coordinating pages together, flip inside out …

Easy Walk Harness Padding

The pups love to go for walks. And when I say love I mean LOVE with a capital everything and rawhides on top. We use a halti collar with Zoe. She’s a pro when she has it on. Finn on the other hand… we’re still working on. He chewed his way through his halti twice, but still pulls too much for just his regular collar.  So… we got him an Easy Walk harness. It has completely changed the way he walks. And it’s perfectly safe… except last time… we went for a really long walk with him and it rubbed under his little arm so much that he ended up with a bloody armpit and then a scab that he wouldn’t stop scratching at. We had to wait a while to go for another walk and watch it to make sure he was healing. SO… here’s my solution! Fleece pup harness padding! It was only rubbing his skin on the bottom strap… so I cut a rectangular piece of fleece the length of that strap, folded it …

Seven Dwarf Costumes

Seven Dwarf Costumes – Part Three Tunics and Hats! (see also: belts and shoes) Also, a fun word that I learned in the process of making these: armscye aka the armhole, refers to the opening to which the sleeve is sewn. Who knew!? (well, probably a lot of people… but not me!) So here’s my makeshift pattern (not to scale) and process. Each tunic used approximately 3 yards of fabric; some a little more some a little less depending on the size. For Dopey’s tunic, it ended up taking a full 5 yards of fabric. I used solid flannel for 5 of the tunics and broadcloth for the other 2. STEP ONE: GET MEASUREMENTS Here are the measurements I took from each individual for the tunics: Length from neck to knee (or however long they wanted the tunic) Shoulder width Arm length (shoulder to wrist) Abdominal circumference (I used this both for the belt and the tunic) STEP TWO: MAKE PATTERN AND CUT FABRIC Note: I only ended up needed to make one pattern to go along with …

Dwarf Slippers and Shoe Covers

Seven Dwarfs Costumes – Part Two I finally finished our Seven Dwarfs costumes yesterday! Pictures to come. First, here are the slippers and shoe covers to go along with them. I took inspiration from here, although I didn’t follow her directions exactly. I used felt for the main part of the slippers and material from my snuggie that the pups tore apart for the inside layers, plus stuffing from an old torn apart dog bed (see, if it wasn’t for the pups destroying so many things, I wouldn’t have as many materials to work with) ;) Here’s the making of: Not everyone wanted to wear slippers all day in the pharmacy… so I came up with some dwarf shoe covers too. I tried one out and it worked on me, but I’m hoping the rest fit ok… I was very approximate with my sizing :/ – we’ll see on Thursday!     (SP11B)
