FEBRUARY

Happenings | Zoe caught and killed her first gopher. :/ In our house, we call them “ground kitties”. They are all over our backyard and the pups love to run and dig after them. I’m afraid it’s turning into a grotesque version of whac-a-mole :/ Also finally broke down and got a new phone… I got the Moto X… it’s pink and white and no short of amazing. That means I can stop stealing Danny’s phone to sync my Misfit… :) which is really what spurred me to get a new one in the first place. I’ve only had it for a few days, but I’m loving it so far! Reading | Finished A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian by Marina Lewycka. It was a good read… and I love her style of first-person writing; it comes out in a way that you feel like you’re really in the main character’s head (in a different way than normal… I can’t explain it). I would recommend it! Also picked back up Greatness: The 16 Characteristics of True …

Who needs underwire, anyway?

Exhibit A: A week or so ago, I came home to my underwire sticking out of my bra about two inches. It was almost sticking out of the top of my shirt. Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration (how low would my shirt have been if it were… phew) but it does make me wonder if anyone else noticed because I sure didn’t. But then I didn’t want to just toss it out (and by “it” in this instance I mean the bra) so I kept wearing it with just the one underwire. Do I fix it? Do I toss it? Do I just take the underwire out of the other side and call it a day? Are my hoarding tendencies coming out in full force here? Possibly. Anyway, so I’m also fighting the need that I have to save every little thing because maybe, just maybe, I’ll reuse or do something with it someday. Hmm… maybe this should have been titled “Confessions of a hoarder trying to simplify her life but she can’t …

JANUARY

Reading | Last year I only read seven books all year. This year I’d love that number to be closer to twelve. I obviously don’t read as much as I would like to, but I’ve recently found a little time during lunch at work. Finished Seven Up (always lighthearted fun with Stephanie Plum); started A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian.   Watching | Netflix, of course! We recently finished Season 9 of Criminal Minds. That show is so addicting! Also Season 8 of Psych. Currently watching Season 4 of Being Human (US version); it’s just getting crazier and crazier. I tried to watch the second season of Hemlock Grove but I barely made it through the first episode. Maybe that show is just too much for me; maybe I’ll try again later. Yes, I rarely watch cable but still watch way too much TV :/    Sewing | I only finished one project this month, but I just cut fabric for 3 more, so hopefully I get those going soon. In the process of rearranging our office, …

Cream of Wheat: Sweet or Salty?

Danny really doesn’t like oatmeal. He says it’s a texture thing. Unfortunately, I can’t imagine not having oatmeal in my life (I mean… come on! It’s so healthy and delicious… am I right?!). I tried buying some steel cut oats thinking maybe that would help with the texture issue. He will eat it, but he’s still not a big fan. So cream of wheat is a nice sort-of substitute for us. I know, it’s not the same, but equally delicious. As long as it’s not instant. That stuff is weird. Back in our beginning days, Danny was sweet one morning and made us some cream of wheat for breakfast. I took one bite and wasn’t sure what I had just put in my mouth. I made a face. He looked at me funny. It was salty! I’m sure I said something along the lines of “Who in their right mind puts salt in their cream of wheat!?” and/or “What did you accidentally put in this cream of wheat?!” but then I soon learned that he meant to …

Sunday Sew Love: 25 January + Hiking!

Happy Happy Sunday! Here are a few beautiful makes for a beautiful day. Sonja – a hedgehog!? Oh my goodness, so adorable :) Also the puppy pajamas… seriously!? This week was full of cuteness overload. I’m pretty sure Danny, me, and the pups need matching PJs next year for the holidays. Too much? We shall see… :) (top/left) Ginger Makes Hedgehog Quilt | (right) Nicole at Home Camas Blouse (bottom/left) What Would Nancy Drew Wear? Hellooooo, new desk! :) I’m hoping it works out like I’m imagining because we have a bunch of boxed up furniture in our garage right now waiting to find its new home. For now, I’ll leave you with a few pictures from our great little hike yesterday. I hope you have a great week! Until next time,
