AVON39 Chicago OUTFITS!

This past weekend, my mom and I completed our 3rd Avon Walk for Breast Cancer! It’s 39.3 miles in 2 days and it’s such an awesome experience. I’ll share more on that later, but I wanted to share our outfits first! Last time we walked, we created shirts and had them printed. This year, since I’ve been on such a sewing kick… I decided to make us some outfits! Patterns Used: Bottoms: Matilda Leggings from Spit Up & Stillettos. My only alterations were to lengthen the crotch seam by about half inch to an inch and size down on the waist (I went one size down from the size I used on the legs and it worked perfectly for both my mom and I). I ended up cutting 3 pair because my first was too small… so my sister gets some too :) That’s a wonderful part of having a sister slightly smaller than me — no worries if things come out too small; nothing wasted! :) **UPDATE: Spit Up & Stilettos / Sew Loft Patterns are no …

May KnitFix & A Union St. Tee Hack

I go back and forth between picking a pattern to match my fabric and picking fabric to match my pattern. I usually go with the latter, but sometimes it’s fun to have the fabric first and find a pattern that fits. That brings us to KnitFix! I got one back in December and told myself I could get another one once I’d used all the different fabrics (it comes with 6 surprise 2-yard knit cuts and it’s a really fun way to try new knits that you wouldn’t necessarily pick out yourself… kinda like Stitch Fix for sewing!). Well, it’s been 6 months… and I still have two that I haven’t used from that December fix so I finally gave in and got a second one. :) And to be fair, I do have plans for the last two… I just need to execute them :) So here’s what I got! No idea what to do with the weird pink & brown print one. The card says it’s a floral, but I’m not really sure …

Me-Made-May’15 Part Three

Hence why I used ‘part’ instead of ‘week’ in my post titles… lol So my MMMay kinda fizzled out a little, but not because I didn’t meet my pledge… only because I ran out of things to wear! :) The only one I didn’t wear was my purple knit tank (unblogged). I’ve only worn it a time or two, but after putting it on the other day I found a hole I need to fix :/ 17|31 Wore my orange aztec Union St. Tee to take photos of my little nephew :) 18|31 A little zebra print for work! 19|31 Finished my pencil skirt just in time for another workday. 24|31 Grocery shopping and a Memorial Day BBQ in my new KnitFix top (unblogged). 25|31 A lazy Monday off work in my Splitback Tee! 29|31 Ready for summer! And my brightest work outfit ever in my Maya Maxi. 31|31 The me-made section of my closet :) My floral Bellevue top and my PJ shorts were worn a bunch but never photographed. Everything else made it’s way into my …

D is for DVF Leather Combo Pencil Skirt

The A to Z Brand Inspiration Challenge. It’s all about taking something I find that I love and re-creating it. In order, of course, because I like things to have some kind of order. lol I’ve also been trying to find things with some sort of unique detail that challenges my sewing ability in some way or causes me to adjust a pattern to match the item. My choice for D could have been really easy. D is for DVF – why not do a wrap dress? Well, it seemed like too traditional of a choice at the time, though it would have been an excellent challenge. Maybe it was too much pressure. Maybe I should have just gone for it. Anyway, I didn’t. I decided to try a new material instead – vegan leather! Inspiration: Diane Von Furstenberg — Leather Combo Pencil Skirt (now out of stock) Theirs: $Some crazy amount of money (something like these) Mine: ~$16 (including the cost of the pattern, which I got on sale back when I still lived …

Onesies for the Little!

It’s probably no surprise by now that I love the Matilda legging pattern from Spit Up & Stilettos. Actually I love all of their patterns, I just have yet to try any of the others :)! And all of their women’s patterns are free! But they also have some awesome kid patterns — soooo now that I have a little nephew to sew for — I decided to try out the Dylan Onesie for this month’s TMS challenge! **UPDATE: the kid patterns from Spit Up & Stilettos are now available under the label Sadie + Sam; their women’s patterns can be found here** I wasn’t quite ready to take on Menswear… but for this little guy… that I can do!   (we had a little 6-month photo session last weekend… isn’t he the cutest!?!) :) So anyway, I made two. For the first, I used this leftover two sided cotton jersey… so now he can match his momma (and his aunt!) lol For the second one I used some of my Spoonflower puppy fabric (also …
