Life Updates

So as you may or may not know, I was supposed to be on a ship right now traveling around Central America on my humanitarian deployment… but that got officially cancelled almost a month ago. And what have I done since then? I really couldn’t tell you! Time has been flying by like crazy! Work has been insane and I constantly feel like I am just trying to keep my head above water. One thing I know is that I finally retired my little ’96 Nissan for a new-to-me ’13 Ford Edge, and I am loving it! I loved my little pink car, but it was time to move on. And although I am now getting half the MPG I was before (filled up my new car for the first time this week and it was painful watching the $$ go up and up…), but it’s alright. It’s worth it for the incredible jump in safety and comfort I now have. Anyway, what else is new?! Danny and I decided to adopt Finn, our 7th …

Moving Day One

New Year. New Home. We signed a lease for our new home last week and today I’m bringing my first load of stuff over to the new house. It’s your pretty typical townhouse… not my ideal home considering I’m not a big fan of new housing developments where everything looks exactly the same… but it’s not like we’re buying the place. And I’m still super excited… it’s going to be so much nicer than where we are now — my favorite things: the fact that it has a garage (no more digging my car out of the snow in the mornings!), the garbage disposal, and the water filter/ice maker in the fridge :) It’s the little things. Now if they can get the fence guy out to finish the backyard for Zoe soon, it will be even more wonderful (right now the back yard is only half-way fenced in… a little too easy for my escape artist pup). It’s a little farther from work, but hoping that it’s all worth it. :) Plus we’ve been …

Goals

At the end of 2011, I made the conscious decision to not make any New Year’s resolutions. As many people, I’ve never been very good at keeping to my resolutions, and decided instead to make very specific and what I thought were reachable goals. Instead of “I will work out every day in the new year and get super fit” I made the goal to complete one of my workout programs (I love Chalean Extreme and had recently purchased Insanity). I made 10 goals total, and then decided on my top 3, or what I thought would be my most challenging goals. For each, I mapped myself out a 60-day challenge, wherein I rewarded myself at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, and then the 2-month mark. I used things that I really wanted (or thought that I needed since I had just moved into my new place… some small, some larger) and told myself I could not purchase them until I stuck with my goals for that pre-determined amount of days. If/when I faltered, I would have to …

New Traditions

LOL… writing that title for some reason made me think of New Directions and how super behind I am on Glee… bummer… :/ Also very far behind on Once Upon A Time. That’s what I get for trying to watch shows on TV… guess I will just have to wait for them to come out on Netflix/DVD! Christmas was weird… it was my first Christmas away from home. And with that, away from all of my family. So many new traditions are beginning, especially after the passing of my grandma (no more ‘everyone go to Grandma’s house on Christmas Eve’, etc) and I’m not sure how to process it. Plus, the new generation is coming – Eva and Scott have Jax now… and George and Shelly have a whole little clan :) It was a great Christmas, don’t get me wrong – Danny, Zoe and I had a relaxing day at home with lots of fun new things to play with – but it’s just different, and I’ve never been excited about change when it comes …

Fail

Ok, so once again I fail at life… or just at my blog. :) I’m trying to get better about updating so that I turn it into a habit before I go on my deployment. Whether or not I post everything right away, I hope to keep a good record of everything that happens. That’s my favorite thing about a blog. My modern diary… I can document my life for the days when I am old and forgetful and would like to look back on what happened in my life and I don’t have to go around searching for a little book that I wrote some things down in at some point along the way. Anyway, it will also be one of my New Year’s resolutions to post more often, so we’ll see. I’ve had this “new” blog for almost a year now and only have a few posts. 2013… here I come!
