Pattern Testing: Button Up Pencil Skirt

My goodness, there are so many projects to catch up on and talk about! But for now, I’m just popping in to mention my latest pattern testing adventure with The Ruffled Stitch and her most recent pattern — The Button Up Pencil! I have to admit, I’m a huge sucker for pencil skirts. Dress them up, dress them down – ladies always look so polished in a pencil skirt, am I right? I often feel like I’m not fancy enough to wear them, but I generally just pretend I’m more sophisticated than I am and wear them anyway. ;) My closet is home to a good number of pencil skirts, but very few casual ones. That’s why I jumped on the chance to test this pattern! The pattern has 2 versions – Version One with buttons all the way down, a back yoke, back pockets – the whole deal… and Version Two – the one I made – is a little more simple with a partial button placket and plain back – which just calls out to be sewn …

Syrah Skirt, Plantain Tee, Plantain Tank, So Zo Undies, & Puppy PJ Pants!

Alright! So if you saw my post on The Monthly Stitch yesterday, this is mostly the same… but I ended up eeking out two more projects from my piece of pink cotton rib knit while I had it out so here’s everything in one place :) Aaand my title kinda gave it all away…  so do what you will with this post lol In case you missed my post over there, this was my new-to-me outfit for Indie Pattern Month :) It was my first time using a pattern from both of these designers and I’m really happy with how they turned out. DEER & DOE PLANTAIN TEE This tee is everywhere and I finally understand why! I’ve had the pattern downloaded for a while but haven’t gotten around to making it till now. The RTW white tee I have in my closet right now is looking pretty old and sad so I desperately needed a replacement :)… this one fit the bill perfectly! The fabric is a cotton spandex blend knit from Girl Charlee. Same one I used …

Chiffon, Tulle & Jersey Knit Reversible Skirt

This is my 100th post on WordPress! Crazy! In honor of that, I got brave and had Danny take pictures of me for this one. As you may have noticed, I usually do headless shots of myself… half because I really don’t like taking pictures of myself… and half because usually when I finish making something I’m too lazy to brush my hair enough to look half decent for the picture. My hair spends most of its time in a sock bun at work; the rest of the time it’s usually wet from the shower in a messy bun. Today, though, is my first real day off in about a month (work has been a bit crazy) :/ — I had a few errands to run (picked up a few things for a project I’m working on for that day coming up next Sunday)… so I actually fixed my hair! I figured it was a prime opportunity to get a few photos of my new skirt. I made this one for the May Sew-along for Pretty …

Purple Maxi Skirt

Sewing Project #5 My first made-completely-from-scratch clothing item. :) Made with inspiration from here and here. My parents came to visit last weekend and my mom (the sewing expert in the family) mentioned that I could have made it a little shorter. But I said no… I made it extra long… just because I can!
