Made Up: Sutton Blouse!

As I’m sure those of you in the sewing world have seen, the Made Up Initiative from Karen at Did You Make That? is well underway and it’s pretty amazing to see how much has been raised so far (£2,402.90 as I write this… all to benefit the National Literacy Trust)!! Way to be, sewing world. :D My pledge was to finish (okay, start…) :/ the Sutton blouse I’ve been planning for B (my bff since about the 1st grade)… she is turning 30 later this month (aka joining the fun club!) so when she was over a few weeks ago to pupsit I left out a pile of fabrics and had her pick her favorite. She picked this “Watercolor Floral Polyester Chiffon” that I got on sale from Mood back in March. Funny thing is it’s one that I picked out specifically for her back then, but when it came it didn’t end up working for the project I had planned, so it’s been sitting in my stash ever since. By the way… B, if you …

Presidio Purse Pattern Testing!

So here’s the project that brought about my whole piping hullabaloo! (Side note: I’m not sure if that’s an appropriate use of the word hullabaloo, but I went for it…) :/ Anyway, a little while back I got an email on my lunch break from Seamstress Erin (I’m on her mailing list) about how she was re-releasing her Presidio Purse pattern and was looking for a few testers. Since I’d only gotten the email about an hour before I read it, naturally I jumped at the opportunity. A girl can never have too many purses, can she? Okay, yes… yes, she can. I actually got rid of about 10 earlier this year. We’ll just not think about that right now. So most of the pattern testing was already out of the way from her first round; she just wanted to make sure everything had moved over to her new format correctly and do any necessary updates. I really wanted to use this fabric, but wasn’t sure if I was going to have enough. I bought 1 …

Flight Suit Purse A Go-Go

Why a go-go? It just felt right. :) So I guess it turned out more of a tote than a purse… but anywhoo… here’s the finished product. As mentioned, I made this one for a friend from one of her boyfriend’s old flight suits. She gave me a couple of flight suits to play around with, and picked out the blue zebra duck cloth from Hobby Lobby for the lining. Now I just have to get it into the mail. I hope she likes it!    My favorite part is the front pockets… all still functional, I just cut out the old fabric and added another layer of the lining so it shows in the pockets too. :) The inside pockets were all stolen from the pant legs. I sewed the two big pockets together then onto the lining only along the outside and one line up the middle so they are more like double pockets. I really liked the examples I saw with the strap coming around from the back to the front, so I …

A (Mostly) Handmade Baby Shower

My sis’s baby shower turned out really fun! We wanted to go with something unique and not store bought… so my mom and I got to work :) Thank you to Pinterest, as always, for the endless inspiration. Theme: Nautical (Ahoy! It’s a Boy!) Colors: Blue and Orange Games: Baby Shower Bingo Sperm Toss Tournament Guess Em’s Belly Size (I’m sure there is a better name for this game… but whatevs) :) My favorite part: I’m so glad I found this note on Pinterest before I sent out the invites. Actually, there are a ton of them out there with slightly different wording, but I think it’s is such a cute idea! Especially for my sis — she’s a big reader. She was able to leave the party with a whole collection of children’s books, and each with meaning because they came from all of her friends and family. For the invites, I finally broke out my Cricut! I got it for Christmas and back then I was super excited to start using it… then it …
