Creative Sewing Challenge with the Blue Dot Georgia Top!

A little while back, the wonderful Melissa from Mahlica Designs invited me to participate in a Creative Sewing Challenge with Blue Dot Patterns. (Side note: I’ve been loving following along with her Core Wardrobe project… definitely something I’ve thought about doing but haven’t jumped in yet) :) So needless to say, I immediately accepted the challenge! Basically it was to take one of the three Blue Dot patterns — Georgia, Margo, or Dover —  and make it your own. Challenge: accepted! ;) So then came my thought process… I initially chose the Margo blouse. I was thinking something with lace overlay for the holidays or I thought about stealing the plaid fabric I have in my fall sewing plans and going more casual. THEN… I came across a couple of images that inspired me to pick the Dover jacket! Sources: Top: Short Sleeve Madewell Utility Jacket | Bottom: H&M Peplum Jacket Isn’t that top one gorgeous!? I can see adding some pockets, a tie, collar, and altering the sleeves to make something really similar. And the bottom… use …

Life Updates, a Greenwood Tank, & a Little(!) Halloween Progress

Hi!! So I have a few super fun life updates!!.. Okay, so they aren’t updates from my life… but they are happening around me so I think it counts! First, my big sis is going to be my new neighbor! They just bought the house next door to us! Well, I should say, their offer was accepted for the house but still I’m super excited for them! And for me that they will be so close! It’ll be just like when we were growing up and I know that she just couldn’t get enough of having me around. ;P Also have I mentioned that my BFF (the one I made the Sutton Blouse for) recently got engaged!?! Super excited to start helping with wedding plans :) See… some people dread that part. But planning is my jam. I tend to spend as much more :/ time planning out my sewing than actually sewing but it’s a toss up which part of the process I actually get more enjoyment out of. Which is why I’m also excited about my new …

E is for Express Aztec Zip Back Peplum Tank

My sewing room is a disaster right now — it’s full of laundry that’s been waiting patiently to be folded since before I went to Chicago :/ Unfortunately, because of that, I haven’t been very motivated to get in there and start a new project. Maybe I just need to get motivated and get in there to fold the laundry lol… SOOO anyway, here I am catching up from May :) Express was an easy choice for E… I love a lot of their stuff. I actually picked this one out a while ago (it’s not even on their site anymore)… but I finally got to it last month and finished it so that’s all that matters, right? ;) Inspiration: Express — Aztec Zip Back Peplum Tank (now out of stock) Theirs: $34.90 Mine: $6.07 (pattern + fabric + zipper) I used McCall’s M6754, view A. Modifications: sized down (based on other reviews I’ve seen of this pattern and I’m glad I did), added an exposed zipper in the back, added a lining to the bodice so …

Crazy Dog Lady? Maybe… just a little…

Muahaha… yes, I couldn’t resist. How could I not join in on this challenge!? I had a vision in my head of puppy running leggings, but couldn’t find any fabric that fit what I was imagining. Plus, there aren’t many dog prints out there that look quite as adorable as my little mutt babies… sooo… in came Spoonflower… I used the same photo that I used for our Christmas Card this past year. I tried adding a few designs but ultimately decided to go with plain white. Gotta work on my pattern repeats if I want to try this fabric design thing again. I used the Sloan Leggings pattern from Hey June (view B, tall, 3/4 length). I was drawn to this pattern because of the design – and the long inseam option, of course!  I used my awesome Spoonflower Modern Jersey fabric and this black Tricot Satin Matte Nylon Spandex Knit from Girl Charlee. My puppy fabric turned out to be a little more see-through than I was imagining, but it still worked well enough. …

C is for C. Wonder Seamed Stripes Swing Tee

Hello hello! Welcome to the third installment of my self-imposed A to Z Brand Inspiration Challenge! I’m actually super excited about this make! It’s probably the most well-fitting thing I’ve made yet. Yes, it’s only a t-shirt, but it’s really comfortable and it has a great shape and length. I credit the pattern (see below!). Here was my inspiration: C. Wonder – Seamed Stripes Boxy Tee Theirs: $78 (now out of stock)   Mine: $14 (and I have plenty of fabric leftover for another project) I got 2 yards of this Two Sided Cotton Jersey from Girl Charlee at the same time I got my KnitFix last month. I’d been looking for a good stripe knit for this project for a while and this one worked out perfectly. I love the heavier weight and it has the perfect amount of stretch. I was trying not to worry too much about matching the stripes at the seams, but it actually worked out and I love so much that it did! Don’t mind the hair… I shed… the puppies shed… …
