2-Year Sewiversary + A Tour of My Sewing Space!

“I’ve learned so much from my mistakes… I’m thinking of making a few more” -Unknown I love that quote. I feel like it describes my sewing perfectly. It’s been a full two years now of learning from my mistakes and I’m still completely hooked. Over the past year, I’ve completed more than 40 projects (see them all here) and accomplished most of my sewing goals from last year… I think. Let’s take a look at those goals, shall we?! 1. Make a structured garment of some kind. Okay so I admit I haven’t ventured too far into wovens yet. Or structured anything. I made a structured basket, does that count? My blazer had a little structure. It seems the majority of the sewing community recommends starting with wovens and venturing into knits. Needless to say I’ve definitely gone the opposite direction. BUT, to be fair, about 98% of my RTW wardrobe is knits, so I like to think that I’m just being realistic and making things I’ll actually wear. 2. Become one with zipper installation. Hmm… let’s …

Shorts Weekend! | Grainline Maritime Shorts & Jalie Board Shorts

The only pair of shorts I’ve made up till now were cheater shorts… they were a refashion from a pair of pants and they didn’t end up fitting all that well. :/ This past weekend, I finally got around to trying shorts again – times two! First up – Maritime shorts for me! I’m been wanting to try this pattern for a while. It’s such a simple style that fits perfectly into my wardrobe. I went all gung ho believing the fit was going to be great with no alterations and cut out two pairs at once. Probably not the best idea… but apparently I enjoy learning the hard way. I cut one out of a stretch twill and I had just enough to eeek out a second pair from my leftover Ginger Jeans denim. Well, almost enough; I filled in with  some shower curtain fabric (also used here, here, and here) for the back of the waistband and one of the pockets. SO the fit… I cut a straight 6. But, just like when …

A to Z Brand Inspiration Self-Paced Sewing Challenge!!!

Join me in the fun! If you’ve been following along at all, you know I’ve been (very slowly) working my way through the alphabet sewing copycat/inspired versions of RTW clothes.  SO, I figured just in case anyone would like to join in… I’d give you a little push to do so. :) Here are a few details: Join in whenever you want and go at your own pace. Basically, do what you want, when you want. This is just a form of inspiration. Sew in between other projects, make your other projects fit in with the challenge, whatever you want to do! Use any pattern. Adjust it to fit the piece you are making. This is where you can really challenge yourself. Choose pieces with interesting  details that require a little imagination. Or don’t. Again, do what you want! :D The only rule: Go in order of the alphabet! Pick a brand/store/designer/etc… go any direction you want, just match it up with the letter you’re on. That’s it! :D Oh, and of course share your creations!! Join …

Introducing Charlotte & The Foxglove Duo!

Doesn’t it sound like it could be a band!? :) Charlotte and the Foxglove Duo… LIVE at the Apollo! So today was very exciting. I was finishing up my Foxglove tanks this morning and guess what the post man dropped off!??! :D Meet Charlotte. She is my slightly early birthday gift from Danny and I love her already! She is the Dritz Twin Fit adjustable dress form, size small. She got her name right out of the box. I said ‘ooo what should I name her’ and Danny said ‘you should name her Charlotte’. Aaaand DONE! Don’t ask me where he comes up with this stuff. But I think it’s perfect. It’s such a nice name. Like Charlotte York or Charlotte, North Carolina (a place I’ve never been, but in my head it’s very beautiful). So I thought it only fitting to have Charlotte help me take photos of my Foxglove tanks! I wanted to make a few of these anyway, so it was good timing for the TMS Indie Pattern Month One Pattern Two …

Syrah Skirt, Plantain Tee, Plantain Tank, So Zo Undies, & Puppy PJ Pants!

Alright! So if you saw my post on The Monthly Stitch yesterday, this is mostly the same… but I ended up eeking out two more projects from my piece of pink cotton rib knit while I had it out so here’s everything in one place :) Aaand my title kinda gave it all away…  so do what you will with this post lol In case you missed my post over there, this was my new-to-me outfit for Indie Pattern Month :) It was my first time using a pattern from both of these designers and I’m really happy with how they turned out. DEER & DOE PLANTAIN TEE This tee is everywhere and I finally understand why! I’ve had the pattern downloaded for a while but haven’t gotten around to making it till now. The RTW white tee I have in my closet right now is looking pretty old and sad so I desperately needed a replacement :)… this one fit the bill perfectly! The fabric is a cotton spandex blend knit from Girl Charlee. Same one I used …
