Flight Suit Purse A Go-Go

Why a go-go? It just felt right. :) So I guess it turned out more of a tote than a purse… but anywhoo… here’s the finished product. As mentioned, I made this one for a friend from one of her boyfriend’s old flight suits. She gave me a couple of flight suits to play around with, and picked out the blue zebra duck cloth from Hobby Lobby for the lining. Now I just have to get it into the mail. I hope she likes it!    My favorite part is the front pockets… all still functional, I just cut out the old fabric and added another layer of the lining so it shows in the pockets too. :) The inside pockets were all stolen from the pant legs. I sewed the two big pockets together then onto the lining only along the outside and one line up the middle so they are more like double pockets. I really liked the examples I saw with the strap coming around from the back to the front, so I …

(left) The Felted Fox Tulip Dress DIY | (center) barethread Frocktober (right/top) lower your presser foot Marabella Dress | (right/bottom) Sewn By Elizabeth K&L Outfit Happy weekend! Our boxes are almost all unpacked (just a few left!!! ok, maybe 7 or so, but still… getting much closer) :) And I finished setting up my sewing machine today so I know what I’ll be doing over the next few days (yay!). Also need to check in at my new work tomorrow… make sure I’m all good to go there and get some other odds and ends done now that we’re sort of almost settled (like getting new car registration and a new license and such…) :/ Oh, and here’s a picture of my new little nephew… just because he is crazy adorable. :) We did a little photo shoot the other day. He made it just in time to be a Halloween baby… I imagine he will probably either love or hate his birthday being on Halloween. I’m not sure how I’d feel about it. Until …

Halloween 2014

Halloween 2014… a.k.a. the year I bought an entire bold of fabric and didn’t sew anything :) And the year of lazy costumes. Basically, the complete opposite of last year. Halloween was weird this year. It was my last official day in the military, we were getting ready to move across the country, AND I didn’t do really anything for my costumes. Call me a costume snob, but I blame my mom (love you, Mom!) ;) I was spoiled and never had a store-bought costume growing up, and I’ve always tried to avoid them as much as possible. This year I had two costumes, both thrown together with regular clothes… they weren’t my favorites but they worked out alright. So first up, just in case you’ve ever wondered what an entire bold of army green broadcloth looks like… here ya go: Here’s the whole M*A*S*H crew: And here was the same group (mostly) the weekend before: :) Oh my goodness, I’m going to miss all of them so much! Who wouldn’t!? Check that group out! …

Stitch Fix #5 – October

I’m a little late posting this one, but here’s what I got in my Stitch Fix box last month! This was the first time I put something in the “note to your stylist” box before they put my fix together — I requested a vest for fall. Tulle Percie Gathered Waist Puffer Vest | $78 | Status: Sent back Ok, yes, I know… I asked for a vest. And I love the brand; I actually have a dress that I found on their sale page a few years ago (and by a few I mean like 6… ugh, where does the time go!?). Looking back at this one it wasn’t all that bad… maybe. The shape just didn’t win me over. It didn’t photograph well enough to tell, but it was too puffed out at the bottom so it gave me a very weird shape, so I sent it back. I actually went shopping a little with my mom yesterday and found this vest at Old Navy that I love… so my vest fix has been satiated for now …

(left) navy blue threads A Megan that fits | (center/top) Diary of a Chainstitcher Basic Bronte Top (center/bottom) Mercury – Handmade Fashion Gabriola for the Winter | (right) Ginger Makes Ginger Jeans! I scheduled this post on Thursday because by the time this it goes live I will be in California!!! (and without internet for a few days). As you read this I am probably unpacking boxes galore! yay! So anyway, don’t you just love, love, love Teresa’s Megan dress. I kinda really want to steal it ;) And Fiona gave me a good reminder that we can and should sew basics sometimes. This Gabriola turned out gorgeous and of course I had to post Ginger’s Ginger jeans! I did something bad… I ordered the denim kit! I also ordered some cheaper stuff to practice with, but for some reason Heather has me believing that making jeans is a possibility for me, so we’ll see how that goes… :) Until next time,
