Top Picks in Patterns & Fabric | EARLY ACCESS

Hahaha… okay so I follow quite a few blogs. Mostly sewing and fashion blogs… very inspirational on both ends. I’ve finally gotten back to reading them here and there and it seems lately the blog-sphere has been bombarded with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (on the fashion blog side). There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, and I’ve even saved a few items to my wishlist to see if they’re still in stock for after the “cardholder early access what-not week” (these leggings, this bra, and these booties)… BUT mostly I just look on there and think, ‘oh, what pattern could I use to make that’ etc, etc. So I’ve decided to do my own version of one of those posts, but instead share my picks of two sales going on right now in the sewing world! First, The Monthly Stitch just posted their pattern bundle for this year’s Indie Pattern Month (every year in July). Last year they did a few different bundles but this year they are doing it a little different and letting …

Buying Sewing Notions Online — Good Idea? Or a Recipe for Disaster?

I’ve learned that I really like to have notions on hand. I don’t live near a fabric or sewing store of any kind (okay… I admit – there’s a quilting shop in town that I haven’t been to yet… but my hopes aren’t very high that they’ll have the thingsΒ I’m looking for… but I still need to check them out one of these days). So anyway, I’ve taken to online shopping for my notions. The problem with online is they don’t always tell or show you exactly what the things you are purchasing look like. Therefore, you have to be just a little bit smart and, well, you know… read descriptions. And from those descriptions you hopefully have a good idea of what you’re ordering. Crazy idea, right!? Which brings us to today’s story. I recently learned my lesson the hard way. What was the lesson, you ask?Β Well let’s see. Here’s a nice little picture of some cotton piping cord: Okay, great… that’s what I need. I needed less than a yard but I figured… …

Addictions

Last week, Danny told me that he thinks I have an addiction to dresses. Just because, sometimes, late at night, when I should be going to bed, I instead go online and shop for dresses (how can anyone resist all of the adorable and reasonably-priced dresses on ModCloth) and then make up reasons why I “need” them (even though I wear a uniform every day)… that doesn’t mean I’m addicted… does it? Hmm… So anyway, now he’s trying to tell me I have a dog addiction. I don’t see what’s so wrong with wanting to save every single stinkin’ adorable puppy face out there. The BDAR volunteer group on Facebook always posts the urgent dogs in Wyoming that need foster homes. Now that we’re not fostering anymore, it kills me inside every time I look at all those faces. Today, I guess someone came in to drop off 12 dogs at one of the shelters that we work with… 12! I just want to pick one (or maybe 3) and say we’ll take him/her/them! Please …
