MMM’16 Pledge + a Dressy Talk Blouse for Easter

It’s that time of year again! That time when the online sewing community comes together in a beautiful way to take over the internet with handmade clothing. It’s the time of year that makes my heart smile :) Or, you know… beat faster… maybe… anyway, it’s a fun time, so of course I’m joining in. Here’s my pledge: I, Kyla of lifebyky.com and @kylakulaky on IG, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’16. I’m going the traditional route and endeavor to wear one me-made item each day for the duration of May 2016. Let’s get this started! :D  I feel like it’s going to be a bit more challenging than last year because I haven’t added very many items to my wardrobe since then (when I said I would wear each one of my handmade items at least once throughout the month because I didn’t have enough to fill up the month), and I’ve also gotten rid of a few. I might have to get creative and/or repeat a bunch… we shall see. ALSO hoping to get …

A few things finished in February…

At the beginning of the month, I dug out a bunch of unfinished objects at different stages in hopes that I could finish a few in honor of the February challenge at The Monthly Stitch! And yay… I actually finished a few! First up… The Greenwood Tank was/is my first indie paper pattern! I love pdfs but it was so fun to work with a pre-printed pattern for a change! I got it in one of her Stitch Kits back in September of last year, then did a test run and cut my fabric in October. Then my cut fabric pieces sat there waiting patiently for me… until now! :)    I cut a straight 4. The fit is great, but not perfect. Next time I’ll try grading out a size or two at the hips, and add an inch or two of length depending on my fabric. Overall, though, I love it! It’s a great go-to staple pattern! Plus… how often can you say that you perfectly match your pattern envelope?! :) I just love this art gallery …

An unannounced look into my sewing room…

Warning: This is not a neat and tidy look into my sewing room like last time. No, this is what you may find if you stop by my house unannounced and ask to see the guest room. :/ To be fair… I’d say it’s about 50-50. There’s a 50% chance you will walk in with it looking nice and neat. I feel very uninspired when it’s messy, so I do clean up typically before I start a new project (or if I know I’m going to have visitors). But then there’s the other 50% of the time when you may find it looking something like this… This is what happens when I’m looking for a pattern that I know I have cut out somewhere but can’t find (hint: this particular time I was looking for my Foxglove Tank pattern – previously used here – for my latest project that’s currently hanging there on Charlotte waiting to be photographed). :/ I have “most” of my cut patterns in a binder… but then there is also the stack …

Straight Stitch Designs Montlake Pattern Testing

So far I’m starting this year out very similar to last year :) And by that I mean pattern testing for Kimberly at Straight Stitch Designs! Yay! Her latest pattern is the Montlake Tee… found HERE! It just released today! It’s a simple, scoop-neck tee that is slightly fitted at the bust and a little more relaxed at the hips. So it’s basically perfect for any knit with at least a little bit of stretch and a little bit of drape. Disclaimer: These are tester versions. So although I love each one as-is, there were a lot of pattern changes along the way so the fit of the final pattern is going to be a little bit different (aka better!) Muahaha! That and I received this pattern in exchange for testing, but that in no way influenced my opinions below. Version 1.   Details: Pattern version 1. Size 4. Long sleeve. No alterations. I sized down for the next one, but this one is still super comfy :) And the shoulder seam and armscye got a huge overhaul …
