Halloween 2014

Halloween 2014… a.k.a. the year I bought an entire bold of fabric and didn’t sew anything :) And the year of lazy costumes. Basically, the complete opposite of last year. Halloween was weird this year. It was my last official day in the military, we were getting ready to move across the country, AND I didn’t do really anything for my costumes. Call me a costume snob, but I blame my mom (love you, Mom!) ;) I was spoiled and never had a store-bought costume growing up, and I’ve always tried to avoid them as much as possible. This year I had two costumes, both thrown together with regular clothes… they weren’t my favorites but they worked out alright. So first up, just in case you’ve ever wondered what an entire bold of army green broadcloth looks like… here ya go: Here’s the whole M*A*S*H crew: And here was the same group (mostly) the weekend before: :) Oh my goodness, I’m going to miss all of them so much! Who wouldn’t!? Check that group out! …

Snow White Halloween in the Pharmacy

Setting the scene, we had the pharmacy itself as the cottage of the Seven Dwarfs, complete with trees, shutters, and forest animals.        (notice our almost free-standing tree…) Then we decorated our flight commander (aka the evil queen)’s office as the castle’s dungeon laboratory, complete with the magic mirror and the heart box. Lastly, we made the “Dwarfs’ Mine”… we hung sheets from the ceiling, spray painted the two sheets on the inside with glitter spray paint and taped glittery “diamonds” all over them. Not super fancy, but it did the trick. Kids come through the clinic every year for trick-or-treating. We played music from the Disney movie while they came through… they were all so adorable… they mostly got excited about Snow White, Dopey and the Evil Queen :) Of course it was not complete without the whole gang: Inspiration for the cottage …

Getting ready for October

Okay, so maybe it’s not technically October yet. But I’m definitely already getting into the Halloween spirit. Especially because I am making Seven Dwarfs costumes for myself and 6 of my co-workers. I’m 2 down right now… only 5 to go! Plus the shoes and belts (we are determined to win the clinic’s Halloween contest this year) :). But, today, I decided to take a break from the costumes and start getting ready for my own Halloween. I’m slowly collecting holiday decorations of my own, but I really don’t have much. So, I decided to put just about everything I have together this year to deck out my entry table. Here’s what I came up with: Then, I took inspiration from here and here to make a Halloween pillow cover (Sewing Project #9): The ribbon isn’t exactly straight… I didn’t feel like putting in the additional effort that would have required… but I’m still pretty happy with how it turned out. And it cost next to nothing (maybe a dollar, if that… I used a …
