Rental Property: BEFORE

HGTV is one of my favorite channels. It’s really one of the main reasons I wanted to keep our cable even though the price went up and we rarely, rarely watch anything on TV :/ (I’m all about Netflix!). I love a good home makeover show… my favorites are Property Brothers and Income Property… so needless to say I was super excited for my parents when they said they were purchasing a fixer-upper to turn into a rental property. Even if I wasn’t involved directly, I was excited to see their progress – and the before and after. Well as soon as I figured out I would be getting out of the military and had an opportunity to move and work back home, I naturally signed us up to live in their rental. :) So now I’m even more excited because I get to see everything first-hand. And so I’ll share :) Here are a few before pictures:          So they’ve been working tirelessly and I’ve been watching from afar as my mom …

3rd Trimester Gift Box

I had big plans to make/sew stuff for this box… but then I got lazy (or didn’t have time… etc… I’m afraid I have no good excuses). :/ Contents: Bravado! nursing bra (the name makes it sound very exciting… I just liked the pink zebra print) A mini massager (I was assuming she would need this by now, but apparently her pregnancy has been pretty low key on the sickness/pain/etc. front) Completely adorable top from ASOS (they sent the wrong size… hopefully it still fits okay) Knit black maternity skirt from H&M Now, there are a couple of stories behind this box. At first, all I’d planned for was the bra, massager, something handmade, and bath salts. I was going for the relaxing end of pregnancy stuff. But when the bath salts came in the mail (I ordered everything from Amazon), the container was open and the bath salts had infiltrated the entire box :/ Bad part was, the nice relaxing lavender chamomile scent smelled almost exactly like kitty litter. To me, anyway. And I’m pretty sure Sissy deals with enough …

Groceries for Mom

Okay, so I didn’t actually get her groceries, but I did make her a cloth grocery bag to go with her (very late!) birthday present this year. I used this super easy tutorial… and will definitely be making more of these for myself! Quick… easy… very useful!   This was also one of those times where I take pictures, but don’t load them onto my computer to realize they aren’t really in focus until after I’ve already sent the gift to its recipient. I hate when that happens. :/ Oh well… there it is nonetheless… more to come! In the meantime, my focus is on prepping for my sister’s baby shower coming up in September. Having way too much fun coming up with ideas (both things I’ll be making for the shower AND for my little nephew)! :) Until next time,

Camping With Pups & Lessons Learned

For my birthday this year, we went camping out at Curt Gowdy State Park. I really love that place! We’ve been accumulating camping gear for a while now, but haven’t actually made a trek until now. So it was our first experience camping together AND our first time camping with the pups. Lesson learned #1 – If you’re going to camp in Wyoming, where strong wind is the most common type of weather… make sure you don’t forget the tent stakes! Luckily, we weren’t too far out (that’s why we chose Curt Gowdy for our first trip… not too far from home if we needed anything or had any puppy emergencies)… so I ran home to get the stakes while Danny placed heavy objects on the tent to keep it from flying away and sat with the pups (and got sunburned). As soon as we started setting up… all Finn wanted to do was help… Zoe not so much. She was content sunbathing in the grass :)    Lesson learned #2 – pups WILL get themselves tangled …

I’m turning 29! What!?!

Tomorrow is my 29th birthday! I’m not sure what happened there. I was at work the other day discussing my/our birthday (me, one of my techs, and one of our volunteers all have a June 29th birthday… best day ever to be born!)… and very nonchalantly I mentioned something along the lines of “I can’t believe I’m turning 28!” Eeeek! I thought it would at least be a little bit longer until I genuinely started forgetting my own age. But apparently it’s happening… now! I got home that day and mentioned something about it to Danny. He then proceeded to break the news to me, although not all that gently. I am, in fact, turning 29. It’s awesome nonetheless. I love my b-day no matter what number is associated with it (ask me about that in 11 years… that opinion may change…). But I can’t even begin to say how excited I am about 29. It’s going to be a big year. Moving back to California… starting a new job… moving into a home with …
