Happy Father’s Day!

My dad is awesome. Check out his garden: Actually, this is an old picture… I think he has a bunch more growing in there now. But I like this picture with the rainbow :) So he’s retired and spends most of his time in the garden. Therefore a tie is probably the last thing in the world he actually needs. But then again I’m pretty sure he doesn’t actually NEED anything. For his birthday a little over a week ago I got him a Frog Log… yes, this is actually a thing… their website calls it a “Critter Saving Escape Ramp”. So you can tell how desperate I was for ideas. LOL… ok, actually I think the Frog Log is brilliant… but hey, that’s just me… I spent too much time in my childhood fishing out California newts (absolutely adorable creatures) from the pool to think this is NOT an essential device for everyone with a pool. But anyway – it’s Father’s Day, and a handmade tie seemed appropriate now that I’m sewing :) So that’s …

4th of July Table Runner

This was another fabric from my grandma stash. I knew when I picked it out I’d use it to make some kind of 4th of July decoration… but wasn’t sure what until I found this Pleated and Pressed Table Runner tutorial. It’s not a fabric I would typically pick out, but I thought it would be appropriate for something quilted. Here are a few more pics of the finished product:   It was a fun pattern; the pleats were a bit of a pain but not bad after working with a few (I ended up taping them down as I sewed like the tutorial recommended) but overall pretty simple to make! I’d like to make another at some point… maybe in a solid color for everyday. The backing on this one is a piece of a blue sheet that I picked up from goodwill and I ended up using regular fleece instead of batting because that’s what I had on hand. Overall cost ~$3. (SP35) We’re supposed to have a BBQ at our house on the 4th …

B is for Boden Maya Maxi

I absolutely love the detail on this dress from Boden. It’s a simple style, but the bands give it a little something extra, don’t you think!? And once again, I am sooo ready for summer weather (it’s on and off raining and gloomy outside right now…silly Wyoming). Also I’ve never been able to buy a maxi dress for myself because they’re never long enough. So here goes… Boden – Maya Maxi Theirs: $148 (on sale this week for 103.60) Mine: ~$22 I used some of the fabric from my online shopping spree the other day – this one is a cotton jersey print from Mood Fabrics. I had 2.5 yards – used a little over 2. I love this fabric. It’s super soft and comfy. I used McCall’s M6658 as a starting point again, but only cut the top top pieces to the waistline. I used this tutorial to piece together the top (using another layer of the same fabric as the lining) so I wouldn’t have to worry about hemming any edges. Also used this …

Online Fabric Shopping

Just consider this Part 2. of my I Think I Have A Fabric Problem post. In the past, I would’ve said – leave me alone too long with my computer and all of a sudden boxes of clothes may find their way to our doorstep (not sure how that happens). Now, leave me alone too long with my computer and all of a sudden the deliveries have switched to fabric. It’s knits galore! Plus one silk crepe de chine. :) I followed this advice and checked out Girl Charlee and Mood Fabrics. Love them both! And both orders came super quick! I do have plans for each of these… so they shouldn’t stay on the shelf too long! It’s nearly impossible to get a good photo of my fabric… it fits perfectly in the little space by the guest/sewing room door… but it’s at a terrible angle to get a photo… this doesn’t include all the new stuff, and all of my bulky fabrics are currently stored in the top of the guest/sewing room closet (not …
