1st Trimester Gift Box

I’m going to be an Aunt! It’s official. My sis is prego. I’ve always liked the idea of being an Aunt. I get to spoil and play with the little one and have none of the responsibility. But… until then… I get to spoil my sissy. It is her first one, after all. And she is my only sissy. Hence, her 1st trimester gift box: Contents: Girly morning sickness bags (or as they call them morning “Chicness” bags lol) A water bottle (gotta stay hydrated, right?… at least that’s what I hear) Pregnancy workout 3-pack (different workouts for each trimester and bonus post-baby workouts) Pregnancy book (it had decent reviews and pretty colors… colors get me every time) I also found the “coupon” card in my card stash… I have a whole collection of them. I can’t remember where they came from but they crack me up.

Grandma’s Fabric Stash

My grandma passed away a little over a year ago. She was the most amazing lady in every way; plus she was a super crafter. From knitting to sewing to doll-making, beading, cooking, and baking… she did it all! She also ran a ceramic shop for many years.  We grew up with handmade dolls, sweaters, afghans, ceramic ornaments… basically everything you can think of that can be made by hand.  Looking back to 2003… I had gone off to college. Among other things, a couple of my friends and I decided to join a crochet club. It was called STITCH (which stood for “Students Taking Initiative To Crochet Hats”). Awesome, I know. They taught me to crochet. Then I went home that Christmas and had my grandma teach me how to knit. She gave me my first pair of knitting needles and they are still my favorite! I cannot even say in words how glad I am for that time that I was able to spend with her and the fact that I gained a …

Christmas Crafting

No better time than the holidays to get your crafting on. Here are a few things I’ve worked on recently: #1. Fabric Ruffle Garland This started out because I was trying to make a backdrop for our Christmas card photo. I cut strips of the leftover fabric I had from Grumpy’s costume, left the edges raw, and put my sewing machine to work. No need for a ruffle foot (maybe one day I will actually look up what that is)… just set it to a long straight stitch and bump the tension up to 9 (as I learned here). The ruffles worked out great (SP15)… but the backdrop was a work in progress and looked something like this: Not exactly what I was going for… so I used the fabric strips as garland instead: #2. Merry Christmas Banner (see above)… with this as my inspiration, I cut the letters from leftover shiny paper I had from making the Evil Queen’s mirror for our Snow White Halloween display at the pharmacy and put it together with …

Birthdays and PJ Pants

Happy Birthday to two of my favorite people in the whole wide world! Bethany yesterday and Danny tomorrow! Bethany is finally old with me… and Danny is basically ancient… he’s turning the big 3-0! :) We were supposed to go down to Ft Collins yesterday for a cooking class… but this rain has been so insane the past few days… the highway was closed! Of course we didn’t look before we left, thinking for sure it would be open (yesterday morning was actually sunny for a while), but then we reached the flashing lights and barricade and had to turn around :/ Then we had plans to go to dinner with my pharmacy people (the guys were planning a shrimp-eating contest at Red Lobster)… but the weather killed that too. And of course we didn’t realize that one until we got there either. We walked in, said what party we were looking for… the girl wasn’t sure so we walked around to find them… once we didn’t find them I checked my phone… sure enough, …

Danish: Take Two

With my parents here last weekend, we decided to revisit the danish deliciousness from last month. This time with strawberries. I added a little bit of strawberry jam into the cream cheese mixture and then put all the freshly sliced strawberries on top. This one was definitely a win-win for me. I’d like to try it sometime with a little less sugar (it was super, super sweet) and/or make my own dough… but overall it was a success. (Served with coffee and my dad’s green smoothies) :)
