My sewing room is a disaster right now — it’s full of laundry that’s been waiting patiently to be folded since before I went to Chicago :/ Unfortunately, because of that, I haven’t been very motivated to get in there and start a new project. Maybe I just need to get motivated and get in there to fold the laundry lol… SOOO anyway, here I am catching up from May :)
Express was an easy choice for E… I love a lot of their stuff. I actually picked this one out a while ago (it’s not even on their site anymore)… but I finally got to it last month and finished it so that’s all that matters, right? ;)
Inspiration:
Express — Aztec Zip Back Peplum Tank (now out of stock)
Theirs: $34.90
Mine: $6.07 (pattern + fabric + zipper)
I used McCall’s M6754, view A. Modifications: sized down (based on other reviews I’ve seen of this pattern and I’m glad I did), added an exposed zipper in the back, added a lining to the bodice so I wouldn’t have to finish any edges :), and chopped a good couple of inches off the straps.
Two things I would do differently if making this again: add something to stabilize the zipper and add a little length to the peplum (because I had to shorten the straps, it made the whole top a little shorter than I would have liked).
This fabric was a sale find on Girl Charlee. It’s cotton spandex and they are 100% correct in the description… this fabric is so soft! I love it!
I ordered 2 yards, and had just enough to make another pair of Matilda leggings when I was done!
**UPDATE: Spit Up & Stilettos / Sew Loft Patterns are no longer available at the source (she switched to only selling children’s patterns under her new label Sadie + Sam) but the entire library of her women’s patterns can now be found (still for free!) at Hoopes Park Studios!**
So comfy! And they complete my outfit!
Kidding! :) I promise I won’t go out in public like this! (instead I’ll post it to the internet… :/ sometimes blogging logic is not very logical… but there it is nonetheless) lol
Until next time,
Wow this is just the same as the $34.90 one. Amazing! I love it!

Great job reproducing that top! It looks awesome and I’ll bet yours fits much better than you could get in the store. I also bet that the Express version wasn’t lined! Very cute!
