AVON39 Chicago OUTFITS!

This past weekend, my mom and I completed our 3rd Avon Walk for Breast Cancer! It’s 39.3 miles in 2 days and it’s such an awesome experience. I’ll share more on that later, but I wanted to share our outfits first! Last time we walked, we created shirts and had them printed. This year, since I’ve been on such a sewing kick… I decided to make us some outfits!

Patterns Used:

  • Bottoms: Matilda Leggings from Spit Up & Stillettos. My only alterations were to lengthen the crotch seam by about half inch to an inch and size down on the waist (I went one size down from the size I used on the legs and it worked perfectly for both my mom and I). I ended up cutting 3 pair because my first was too small… so my sister gets some too :) That’s a wonderful part of having a sister slightly smaller than me — no worries if things come out too small; nothing wasted! :)

**UPDATE: Spit Up & Stilettos / Sew Loft Patterns are no longer available at the source (she switched to only selling children’s patterns under her new label Sadie + Sam) but the entire library of her women’s patterns can now be found (still for free!) at Hoopes Park Studios!**

  • My top: Pneuma Tank from Papercut Patterns! I’ve been wanting to try this pattern and as it turned out I love it just as much as I imagined I would :) It’s a really fun tank and so comfortable. It may not be great for more strenuous activities, but for walking it was perfect!
  • My mom’s top: Fun Summer Tee from iCandy Handmade. It’s a free pattern available in size medium. I guess it would make more sense to get measurements when you’re sewing for other people, but I was in a bit of a time crunch, so I just sized up a little and it fit!

Fabric and Notions:

  • The pink fabric I found from CaliFabrics, which is basically my new favorite online shop! It feels like I’m almost shopping local because their brick & mortar store is in San Fran and that’s just about how far I would have to go anyway to find a nice fabric shop! That I know of anyway — any NorCal ladies have any recommendations of places to go??? This fabric is a 4-way stretch medium weight poly/rayon/lycra blend and it’s perfect for activewear. It has a compression fabric feel to it. I’ll definitely be making another Pneuma Tank and/or Pneuma Bra(s) from my leftovers!
  • The elastic I found from Couture Craft Supply; I got it from their Etsy shop but they have a regular website too, stocked full of endless fold over elastic options! The elastic was my favorite part and the main reason I chose the Pneuma Tank – to show it off! It started out white with pink ribbons but ended up pink with pink ribbons. For some reason I was thinking because of the type of fabric it was, my pink fabric wouldn’t bleed color. Well needless to say, I was wrong :/ And maybe just maybe ended up with a load of my guy’s white shirts that are now slightly-pink. Just slightly. lol But hey, my white fabrics on this top held up well! ;)
  • For the white fabrics, I chose a plain white for the front and stripes for the back on both of our tops. The solid is this spandex blend knit from Girl Charlee. It’s a wonderful weight, and barely see-through for a white knit. If there were other color options in this fabric, I would be all over them :) The striped fabric is this jersey knit from Fabric.com. A lot more see-through but I knew it would be. Worked great for the back of the shirts. I’m thinking maybe a lightweight swim cover-up with what I have leftover!

One thing I learned… it’s nearly impossible to photograph the pneuma tank when it’s not on a body. That and fold it. That and put it on… it’s just confusing all around :) lol But I love it nonetheless! Here are a few detail pics of my mom’s top:

Now next time we do the walk, I can make another outfit and we can be in all handmade for both days! Muahaha! :)

Until next time,

Ky
